The rebrand that should have taken one summer, ended up taking over a year. Yikes!
I could write a whole novel on the occurrences that lead to this but what I would like to focus on is the significance of the name "Nossa Chamada." It is so dear to me.
Nossa Chamada translates to "our call" in English from Portuguese.
I was born in Brazil but raised in the UK, this deliberate decision to create a brand name in Portuguese is a direct homage to my heritage and one of the places that makes me the happiest, where I have so many people whom I love.
The other layer of this stems directly from Capoeira. Capoeira is a Afro-Brazilian mixed martial arts born in Brazil developed through centuries of rebellion starting off during slavery and through many civil conflicts. It is now recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Capoeira is truly an art form comprised of martial arts, dance, music, philosophy and ritual.
I was lucky to have stumbled across an amazing Capoeira school on a random Saturday at Pineapple Dance Studios of all places. Now I am two years deep with Mojubá Capoeira led and founded by Mestre Poncianinho. It has truly been such a source of joy, community and discipline.
Within Capoeira there are specific moves that invoke a Chamada in other words, a call. This is done within a game when the two parties are not in sync for any reason and it is supposed to reset the rhythm of the game. The rebranded name of this blog is very directly linked to this concept.
There are so many instances in life where you may not be on the same page with others or even within yourself. It is crucial to have moments where you wave the white flag and seek to recalibrate. It doesn't always re-align you in the ways you'd expect but there are many cases where it leads you in the direction you need.
Ultimately, I want this platform to be a place that I can call upon to share ideas, concepts, stories that can connect people and even challenge ideas.
Welcome to my passion project!
