Set in a medieval Cairo, Chakraborty carefully created a world filled with culture with a real eye for detail on religious norms and fashion. The world building is insane.
Some of the themes that I really enjoyed exploring were those of the burden and beauty of carrying cultural heritage. The magical action also never stops.
As an avid reader, I found that I couldn't predict everything for once. There is also of course an element of romance! This isn't overpowering at all. In fact, it gets drawn out through the rest of the trilogy.
